August Book Recap: From Historical Fiction to Horror Novels

My reading has been all over this month, largely interrupted by having surgery. But I’m recovering well and I’m back on it now! For the first week I just didn’t have the concentration to read, I only had a keyhole surgery but man, it was exhausting.

So in August I read:

  • The Divine Wolves – Books 1, 2, and 3 – Marissa Gilbert
  • A Touch of Malice – Scarlett St Clair
  • A Game of Retribution – Scarlett St Clair
  • Queen Charlotte – Julia Quinn and Shonda Rhimes
  • Crimson Peak Official Movie Novelisation – Nancy Holder
  • House of Hunger – Alexis Henderson
  • Fifty Minutes – Carla Jenkins
  • The Road of Bones – Demi Winters

Ten books in total!

For September and onwards, these are on my TBR list:

  • A Game of Gods – Scarlett St Clair
  • Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow – Gabrielle Zevin
  • Rouge – Mona Awad
  • Death in Velvet – Rose Donovan
  • The Beast – Alexander Starrit
  • A Dowry of Blood – S T. Gibson
  • The Life Impossible – Matt Haig
  • The Voyage Home – Pat Barker
  • Medea – Rosie Hewlett
  • Atalanta – Jennifer Saint
  • Hera – Jennifer Saint
  • Year of the Reaper – Makiia Lucier
  • Four Seasons in Japan – Nick Bradley
  • Bliss and Blunder – Victoria Gosling
  • A Tempest of Tea – Hafsah Faizal
  • Gentlest of Wild Things – Sarah Underwood
  • Gods of the Wyrdwood – R J Barker
  • The Bone Ships – R J Barker
  • Straight River – Chris Norbury
  • I Give It To You – Valerie Martin
  • Never Forget You – Fiona Lucas
  • There Are Rivers in the Sky – Elif Shafak
  • Moonstone – Laura Purcell
  • The Full Moon Coffee Shop –
  • The Map of Bones – Kate Mosse

I really enjoyed Queen Charlotte and intend to make my way through the rest of the Bridgerton series too at some point, it’s become my guilty pleasure. (And my partner’s – he says he’s not watching but, a few episodes in he was hovering over my shoulder and asking questions about the plot. Y’all love the historical fiction sop really.)

Hope everyone’s had a great August and is ready to settle into Autumn like I am, I couldn’t be more ready for cooler temperatures (not that we had the warmest Summer, mind), long coats, horror films, and more gothic novels. I’m even buying myself a milk warmer so I can make my own spiced seasonal hot drinks. (Don’t make me say it… Yes I love a Pumpkin Spice latte!)

What’s everyone else looking forward to reading in the coming months? I’ve got quite a few books on pre-order coming out in September and October and I can’t wait to read them!

Hello, I’m Gemma. Witchy woman, goth, future ghost.
I’ve always been a lover of good, old-fashioned ghost stories, gothic literature, and fantastical worlds. Here you’ll find book reviews ranging across genres such as gothic romance and horror, contemporary fiction, fantasy, historical fiction and romance. With the occasional non-fiction book too.

When I’m not buried under my books, I’m usually playing The Legend of Zelda and/or making videos about it. Connect with me over at TheZeldaScrolls on YouTube.
